Project: Beyond Black-Box Modelling: A Five-Year Empirical Study for a Transparent Cooling System Energy Modelling Framework in an Irish Data Centre
This research develops a calibrated virtual model of a commercial data centre cooling system using five years of high-resolution operational data. The work combines physics-based modelling with empirical regression to provide a transparent tool for benchmarking, diagnostics, and optimisation of cooling energy performance. The model achieves less than 2% error in reproducing annual cooling loads and effectively identifies metering anomalies and seasonal efficiency trends.
