Dr Md Robiul Hossain is a Senior Research Assistant at Technological University Dublin, funded by MaREI, the Research Ireland Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine. He leads work on establishing an autonomous wind tunnel control loop and the verification, validation, and testing of various data centre server cooling technologies.
Prior to joining TU Dublin, Dr Hossain worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Galway on acoustic modelling of offshore wind turbine noise using COMSOL (2024) and as a Research Associate at the University of Galway and Sonitus Systems on psychoacoustics, soundscape assessment, and noise monitoring (2023-2024). He holds a PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Trinity College Dublin (2018-2023), where his thesis focused on plate-type acoustic valve resonators for low-frequency sound absorption. He also holds an MSc in Communication and Information Technology from the University of Bremen, Germany (2015-2017) and a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KUET, Bangladesh (2008-2012).
A demonstrator for cyber-physical systems focusing on optimising energy usage from the demand side. This project involves establishing a fully instrumented, autonomous experimental facility integrating a custom-built closed-loop wind tunnel for benchmarking hybrid air-liquid server cooling under controlled conditions. Key results include inlet temperature regulation within plus/minus 1 degrees C, settling times below 2 seconds for step load changes, and 20-30% reduction in fan power consumption.
